Craft Yarn Council research has shown that consumers want to get started and finish their projects as quickly as possible. Success depends on their selecting the right yarn, pattern and accessories. That’s why we have set aside a portion of the Discover Class time for instructors to take students on a “mini” field trip of the yarn department. It is so much easier to discuss different yarn weights and types when you have shelves of yarn to use as examples than just talking about it in class. It’s also helpful to discuss important information on yarns labels and to answer questions about different types of yarn needles and hooks.
Please encourage students to visit Craft Yarn Council’s web sites for helpful tips and answers to frequently asked questions. Many CIP graduates completed the program before CYC developed its Standards & Guidelines. If you are not familiar with this popular site, please acquaint yourself with it: www.yarnstandards.com.
