To get the most out of these boards, before posting a topic, we suggest:

Scrolling through past posts to see if your question has already been asked and answered. Postings are in chronological order of the date when the topic was first posted. You can also use the SEARCH function to look for past posts about your question.

If you don't see your question addressed, or if you have additional questions, post a New Topic rather than replying to an existing topic. This will increase the likelihood of getting responses to your specific question. Also, try to describe your specific question in the topic subject line rather than "New Knitter" or "Help."

The more information you can provide in your question, the better the responses.

We hope you enjoy the postings on this board and will come back to share your knowledge with others.

I think I was actually thinking more of grosgrain ribbon to help stabilize the vest front.

I ordered the zipper on-line and it arrived yesterday. Quite the monster zipper -- that's what I get for ordering on-line and not calling for more details. I wanted the zipper that not only comes apart but can slide from both directions. I think you are correct that I won't need anything else to stabilize the front edge.

I'm planning on picking up stitches along the vest front to create a placket. I'm thinking of making it wide enough to "hem" back to the front edges, using a slip stitch to attach the backside of this hem to the front edge. Then I think I will sew my zipper to the slip stitch.

I was never much of a machine sewer so I will definitely hand sew my zipper in place. Thanks for the feedback about using regular sewing thread.
