Posters to these boards are knitters and crocheters like yourself. If you have a specific question for the Craft Yarn Council, please send an email message to: info@craftyarncouncil.com

To get the most out of these boards, before posting a topic, we suggest:

Scrolling through past posts to see if your question has already been asked and answered. Postings are in chronological order of the date when the topic was first posted. You can also use the SEARCH function to look for past posts about your question.

If you don't see your question addressed, or if you have additional questions, post a New Topic rather than replying to an existing topic. This will increase the likelihood of getting responses to your specific question. Also, try to describe your specific question in the topic subject line rather than "New Knitter" or "Help."

The more information you can provide in your question, the better the responses.

We hope you enjoy the postings on this board and will come back to share your knowledge with others.

WARNING: L-O-N-G post with a MONOSPACE-font text "diagram"

I'm thinking of an afghan pattern booklet from Coats and Clark in the '60s. [Among the patterns were "Park Avenue" (which we would now call a "mile-a-minute" pattern), and a knit bobble-and-split-cable ripple design that looked intricately and intimidating... but I can't remember the name of the booklet.]

But I do remember it included an Aran-look crocheted pattern (again, I can't remember the name). Here's the best I can do at trying to "draw" it with text characters. (If symbols don't line up, copy this to a word processing and change to a monospace font such as Courier New to get a better view.)

| = post dc ?
- = sc
* = popcorn
~ = reverse sc ?

It had a central panel of popcorn diamonds (several stitches wide), and side panels of zig-zag popcorns (like "half" the center panel), all on a background of sc. It was worked in strips, with columns of maybe front or back post dc at the edges of the strips, which were then joined together and edged (if I remember correctly) in reverse sc. It would make a suitable gift for a man.

If this sounds (or looks) like it might be what you're looking for, let me know and I'll search for the booklet. (I know I have it somewhere because after I lost my first copy, I bought another at a yard sale.)
