Although I can't advise you re: knitting, I have had carpal tunnel for many years and crochet all the time with it. I've found the hooks I'll list below have been absolutely amazing. The handles are shaped and cushioned for comfort. When using these wonderful hooks, my hands do not go to sleep, tingle, or hurt. I can crochet for hours with no pain. They fit so well into your fingers, give you the desired gripping power with no pain.
I've also found these hooks make such a beautiful stitch. It remains open to receive the next stitch unlike any I've ever created before. Can't explain it, but it's true!!
You can purchase these hooks individually for around $6. It might be a good idea for you to give one, in your favorite size, a try before making a purchase of all eight. I did that, and immediately went back and purchased the whole set. Wish they would come up with more sizes, and a way to incorporate this technology into the steel hooks. They are available at Michaels, Mary Maxim, and many other catalogs. I used the item # thru Herrschners for your viewing.
Good luck and God bless you as you try to conquer this painful condition.
