Features 'Knits of the Round Table'

Home Matters co-host Susan Powell traveled to Atlanta, GA, to meet fifth-grade students at the Galloway School who have been Warming Up America! for over two years, thanks to the guidance of teacher Pat McLeavy-Payne.

It all started when a few students saw Ms. McLeavy-Payne knitting between classes. They wanted to learn, and once one asked, it just took off from there. She felt that Warm Up America! would be an ideal program through which to teach the children the basics of knitting--they¹d learn by making a square--plus, involve them in a wonderful community project. The kids liked the idea too, and the ³Knits of the Round Table² was born.

Sitting with Ms. McLeavy-Payne and the children (they meet several times a month before school begins), Susan Powell asked the children how they felt about Warm Up America! One little boy expressed the sentiment of many: ³It makes me feel good because it¹s going to someone who needs it.² And the nice thing is they are enjoying knitting too!
