Story 4
Keep the Ball RollingCraft Yarn Council reaches out to leaders in youth organizations such as 4-H and Family, Career & Community Leaders of America (formerly Future Homemakers of America), promoting Warm Up America! as an excellent community service program. We know it works because educators like Marian Kincaed, 4-H Resource Specialist for Klickitat County, WA, have been endorsing the program for years. Marian had participated in the Council's Certified Instructors Programs and learned about Warm Up America! She later introduced Warm Up America! to 4-H groups in Klickitat County with wonderful results, reproducing CYCA instructional materials to help teach the children to knit and crochet. In addition to being an effective community service program, says Marian, the children learned a skill (knitting or crocheting) that will last a lifetime. She also pointed out that WUA! is a wonderful group project for children or teenagers. Because of the increased interest in involving children in the program, we have prepared a brochure entitled KIDS Warm Up America! For a copy, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to CYCA, P.O. Box 9, Gastonia, NC 28053. For more stories about kids Warming Up America!, turn to page 10, and check out our Web site for other teaching tips. Return to top | For more stories | Home |
