Crochet stitch

Hi, the pattern I'm working on calls for a dc in the side of the
single chain. What do they mean by "side" of sc? Thanks

"sc" usually means single

"sc" usually means single crochet, not single chain. If you look at the stitch, you should see a top, bottom, and two sides. I would guess you insert your hook into the side.
