vintage crochet patterns

I've run across this patter in my search for thread bonnets:

It calls for No. 100 crochet cotton and does not specify a hook size.

I can find no such thing as no. 100 crochet cotton and I have no idea which size hook to pick. Any ideas?

The link from "Barnabus Cadbury" is to FaveCrafts.com - lots of patterns, almost none of them vintage (I found only one in the Crochet section).

To access the site, you need to give your e-mail address and other personal data, then accept/decline a lot of "offers". (NOTE: Most are unmarked, but some are marked "Yes" unless you change the response!).

Decide for yourself whether it is worth your time and personal info.

Does the pattern indicate what gauge you should achieve? If so, you would use whatever hook size you need to match the stitches per inch. The label on the thread itself may also suggest a hook size and appropriate gauge.

Hi Christineka, My guess is the antique pattern would use #10 Cotton Yarn which should be 100% cotton. The hook size would probably be a 7 or 8 steel hook, these are very small hooks. I am not skilled with these hooks or #10 thread...I have tried and tried but cannot master it yet....I will try again. Hope this helps...All the best, Jane
