I need help with this pattern. I can get the 1st two rounds then when i go to do the 3rd i get stuck.

The pattern is ch 76 using C. Rnd 1: beg in 2nd ch from hook,sc in 2nd ch and in each ch across to last ch;work 3 sc in last ch to turn corner; working along opposite side of beg ch, sc in rem loop of each of the next 73 ch, work 2 sc in last ch, end by joing mc with slip st in first sc -152 sc in rnd.

RND 2; using MC, ch 3(counts as dc), work 4 dc in same space as last slip st,dc in each of the next 73 sc, work 3 dc in next sc, dc in next sc, work 3 dc in next sc, dc in each of next 73 sc, work 3 dc in next sc, dc in last sc,end by joing B with slip st in top of beg ch-3.

RND3: using B,ch 1,sc in same space as last slip st, sc in next dc, work 3 sc in next dc for corner, place marker(pm) in center st; sc in each of the next 77 dc, work 3 sc in next dc for corner, pm in center st; sc in each of next 5 dc, work 3 sc in next dc for corner, pm in center st, sc in next 77 dc,work 3 sc in next dc for corner, pm in ceneter st; sc in each of last 3 dc, end by joining MC with slip st to first sc.

RND 4: Using MC, ch 1, sc in same space as last slip st, *sc in each st to center st of corner group, work 3 sc in center st,move marker up to currnet rnd; rep from * 3 times, then sc in each rem st, end by joining A with slip st to first sc.

Okay.

If your stitch count is consistently off, try to count out how many stitches you created in the previous round and how many stitches you need to have to make the next round work out. After doing this, it seems you have good reason to be off on Round 3.

If you count out the number of stitches to do Round 3 the way it is written, you will need 168 -- which is 8 more than what I count as created in Round 2. My suggestion would be instead of doing 77 sc, do 73 sc -- this is the number of dc's done in sequence in Round 2. The other adjustment could be do the 77 sc but do 5 sc in one stitch instead of sc in next 5 dc's. A third option is do 75 sc instead of 73 or 77, and then do 3 sc's in the center dc, instead of 5

This is basically a center out afghan design so you will need to do increases on both sides of all 4 corners to get your afghan to grow out appropriately. It may be that the third option would be the one that works best since it shifts stitches around to both sounds of her marker.

If this is a commercially published pattern, you may want to see if there is an errata page for this pattern.

I get all the stitches in rnd 2 right it is just when i get to rnd 3 there seems to be not enough dc to do the sc. I always am short. i can get the first part, but when it says to sc in each of the next 5 dc etc there isn't enough spaces to do the 77 sc and the 3 sc for corner, andthe last 3 sc.the 5 sc is what messes the whole thing up.

Counting out the stitches listed in Round 2, I have 161 stitches (includes the ch-3 at the beginning) by the end of Round 2. I actually think that it should be 160 stitches because the pattern that I see should be 1+3+73+3+1+3+73+3+1 whereas the instructions really have 1+1+3+73+3+1+3+73+3+1 where that first 1 is the ch-3. If I am correct, then I would do ch-3, then 2 dc in next stitch.

Are you making sure to do the multiple stitches in the one stitch? Where I have marked out 3 -- it is 3 dc's in one sc. If you are simply doing 3 dcs in the next 3 sc, you won't have enough stitches.

If you are consistently short a set number of stitches, you are most likely consistently not increasing enough by doing several stitches in one. If the number you are short varies, then the count is off somewhere. It might help you to break out each step and then put markers so that you can more easily go back and count. And for those long sections, i.e. 73 dcs in the next 73 scs, you may want to mark these stitches off in groups of 10 or 20 so it's easier to see where the count may be off.
