Knit Pineapple Afghan

This pineapple-inspired design, the symbol of hospitality and belonging, makes an attractive addition to any home and a very special heirloom.

Approximate finished size: 48 by 53.

  1. 35 ozs. 4-ply worsted-weight yarn
  2. Size 5 and 7, 24 circular needles or size to obtain gauge
  3. 1 double point needle (dpn)

Pattern stitches on larger needle: 5 stitches = 1
To save time, take time to check gauge.

Seed Stitch (st): Worked on an uneven number of stitches (sts).
Row 1: * Knit (k)1, purl (p)1; repeat from *, end k1.
Repeat Row 1 for Seed St. Note: You will always work a k over a p and a p over a k.

Diamond Stitch Panel: Worked on 11 sts.

Pineapple Pattern: Worked on 32 sts.

Note: A circular needle is used because there are so many stitches to hold on the needle. Work back and forth as if working with two needles.

Afghan: With smaller needle, cast on 219 sts. Work Seed St for 2.
