Crochet

How do I get this look?

I am pretty new to crochet and I would like to make blanket pieces like the ones in this picture. Does anyone have any ideas what type of crochet this is (or knitting) and what yarn they are using. I've been searching images and just can't seem to find anything like it. I bought the suitcase and really like the vintage look of the blankets sticking out.

I can't get the photo to appear so here is a link. I really would appreciate someone taking the time to check it out and let me know....it is frustrating. Thanks.

vintage pattern interpretation of instruction

previous round were all tr c clusters with ch 2 between each cluster
Next round is ch4, cluster st in same space, *ch 2, tr c over next loop, ch 2, cluster st in next cluster st, repeat from * all around ending with ch 2, tr c over last loop, ch 2, join.

Question is what is meant by " over next loop".

Blanket problem...

I tried looking back through and didn't see this already posted. Sorry, if its a repeat though.

I am crocheting a blanket/afghan and I am having some problems. The pattern is very easy ch75 then 60 rows of sc. But instead of using 1 strand of yarn you use 2. The hook required is 15mm and the yarn required is a bulk 6weight. I am using both of these. My problem is even though the blanket is soft because the yarn is soft its very....stiff. like its not drapey or flexible at all. its seems like it would be awkward to use as an actual throw.

Crohet symbol chart

I do not understand the symbols on the crochet chart that I am working on. Can anyone help me?

The symbol is a bigger oval shape with a line on top of it and two smaller lines through each side. The pattern is the Shimmer Shawl by Nikki Slipp on Ravelry.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't understand this granny square

Round two reads: ch 3 turn, (2dc, ch1, 3dc) in first ch-1sp, (3dc,ch1, 3dc) in next 3 ch-1 sps; join with slip st to first dc, finish off: 24 dc and 4 ch-1 sps.

It is supposed to be round 2 of the square, but if I work in only the first 4 chains then it is not a flat round circle like it needs to be.

Can someone help me? I can not understand these instructions. I am trying to make the Granny Ripple on page 63 from the leisure arts 40 favorite ripple afghans book. And these instructions are for round two of the bottom panel, just in case anyone has the book.

Crochet Hat

I have a picture of a crocheted hat that I need to duplicate. It almost looks like a varigated yarn that creates the pattern except that it's swirled or rounded so it doesn't look patchy. I would post a pic if I knew how. Does anyone out there know where I might find the pattern? can e mail me for pic. rhol@mwt.net Any help appreciated.

harlequin pattern

I have started crocheting an afghan that has a "harlequin pattern." I don't know if this is a common pattern or only refers to this particular project. I am unable to understand the instructions, specifically: "sc in ch 1 sp two rows below (how do you do that?), enclosing the ch 7 (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in top of 6 dc-tog". I don't know what they mean by "enclosing". The dc-tog I think I figured out. If anyone can shed light on this, I would appreciate it.

teacher wanted for private lesson ( or group lesson)

Hello,
I would love to start knitting and/ crochet, however classes at Michaels are offered in an inconvenient time for me. Are there any teachers out there who would be interested in teaching me at my local library at Mahopac, NY or at a coffee shop in the area .this would be mornings on Mondays or mid day on Fridays.
Thanks,
Karen

Need Help with Pattern

My first attempt at crocheting an infant sweater has gone completely awry! The pattern is a Red Heart pattern and was specifically chosen by me because it is rated as easy. The first little bit of crocheting was pretty straightforward but as I progressed further, problems came up.

The "sweater is worked in one piece sideways from beginning of center of Right Front, around Back and ending at center of Left Front. Stitches for Sleeves are picked up around Armhole and worked in rounds to Cuff." That I understand easily enough. Took me awhile to understand the orientation but I get that.
