Tips and Sharing: New Crocheters & Knitters

Help, please. Coats and Clark pattern, WR1561 Crochet Holly Stocking

I was happily crocheting along until I hit a snag in understanding a portion of the instructions. First I will list the portion of instructions I am having difficulty with (where do I start at this junction of the pattern; and in what direction am I to go on the heel and/or foot portion?), and then the link to find the complete pattern. I need to finish this before Christmas Eve, so any help is very much appreciated.

Instruction help

Hi,
i've this set of instructions but not sure exactly what it means, can anyone help?

To make front head and body:
Cast on 24 sts
Knit 56 rows garter st (1st row is RS), placing markers at each end of 50th row to indicate arm placement.
Shape head- 1st row- Cast on 10 sts, knit to end = 34 sts.
2nd row- Knit to last st, inc in last st= 35 sts.
3rd row- Inc in first st, knit to end = 36 sts.

RS

I appologize for asking likely obvious and ridiculous questions but I am BRAND NEW to knitting. Knitting my very first item and am teaching myself with no one to ask...
I am knitting from my very first pattern. It is a pattern for sock monkeys and other animals made by Patons. I'm making the elephant and so far the entire pattern has been in the round. The pattern has just switched to knitting with only 2 needles and says "Work back and forth across needle in rows". I'm assuming this means normal knitting, row by row. Is that corect?
The 1st row says (RS) Knit.

Gingham blanket help again

I got the first round done it did start out like a granny square. Thanks Mother Hen. but now im not understanding the next rnd. 2nd rnd. Hi!
I have been trying to make a hat for my granddaughter. When I join the rows at the beginning they line up, however, as I continue the seam curves. I just can’t get it straight.
I would appreciate your help.
Thank you,

joining yarn??

I have an afghan that has double crochets in it. I'm trying to finish it; it has a "wave" stitched over the whole thing.

The directions say to join the yarn around the post of the 2nd dc and then chain 1.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to join the yarn around the post! I've tried different methods and nothing works; I usually end up with the yarn on the wrong side of the afghan.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.......
