I would think that using one strand of the Sugar'n Cream would be close to the thickness of two strands of the cotton 8 - the dishcloth might come out just a little smaller than it should?(smile) I have found the South Maid yarn at Walmart before but it's been over a year and I'm not sure if their stores still carry this yarn!
