Hi Sarah,

I've run into the same problem myself. I'm from Canada but I live in the USA now. All of my hooks (and I have a lot) are in mm. I have a chart in one of my books:

Aluminum or Plastic hooks: (these are the hooks used for yarn / wool)

U.S. U.K. Int'l (mm)
14 2 mm
13
B 12 2.5 mm
C 11 3 mm
D 10
E 9 3.5 mm
F 8 4 mm
G 7 4.5 mm
H 6 5 mm
I 5 5.5 mm
J 4 6 mm
K 2 7 mm

(these are the hook sizes used for crochet cotton)

Steel

U.S. U.K. Int'l (mm)
14 6 .6 mm
13 5 1/2
12 5 .75 mm
11 4 1/2
10 4 1.00 mm
9 3 1/2
8 3 1.25 mm
7 2 1/2 1.50 mm
6 2 1.75 mm
5 1 1/2
4 1 2.00 mm
3 1/0
2 2/0 2.50 mm
1 3/0 3.00 mm
0
00 3.50 mm

Also, to my knowledge the stitches should be the same. But I'll see if I can find a site for you with the stitches on it to help you out.

PS: Feel free to email me with any other questions. ;)

Hi. I have some afghan patterns I would like to make, but the names of the stitches and sizes of hooks are not the same as here in Australia.
Could someone tell me what the hook sizes are in mm?
Are there any sites that show how each stitch is made? I think that over here, a dc is different to the USA. I don't want to start anything if it's going to look ridiculous!
Thanks in advance for any help people can provide
