I am knitting a sweater from the bottom up. The sleeves are knit and added separately, on to the circular needles. I must be doing something wrong because when I add the six stitches under the arm they come out purl . Please is there anyone out there that can tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks for any help provided to me.

When you add the underarm stitches, are you slipping them on from a holder or are you casting them on?
If you are slipping them on from a holder, unless you have a double point needle holding them, or a holder where you can slip from either direction, make it a two-way slip. Slip them on to another needle and then slip on to your circular needles.
If you are casting on the stitches, try a different cast-on.
Or, since these stitches are under the arm and not particularly noticeable, just leave those purl bumps and tell people they are a design feature.
