Hi, I am going to make the Color me Afghan from Crochet Pattern Central. I want to use a bobbin so I don't have a lot of loose threads.

Can anyone explain to me how to use a bobbin.

Thanks, Carol

Basically you just wrap your yarn around the bobbin until either it cannot hold any more yarn, or you have wound as much yarn as you think you will need. You then use them as smaller balls of yarn. The only benefit, in my opinion, of the bobbin over a small ball of yarn is that it holds the yarn in place so you don't have little balls skipping all over the place.

I don't know how many bobbins you will be using, but be warned they will add weight to your work in progress.

If I don't need to have lots separate balls of the same color, I like to actually just pull from the existing skein or larger ball. Or, you can wind up small balls and put them in small zip lock bags.

If each run of color is only a few yarns, I prefer to deal with the possible tangled yarn ends rather than spend the time winding bobbins or small balls.

Thanks, I will give both a try.
