pattern reading
Pattern reading should be covered in any crochet class. Some people can pick it up on their own. The * symbol is used to define which stitches should be repeated for the pattern. This pattern also uses the + too. This is because the final repeat will not need as many stitches. Sometimes it helps to rewrite the pattern so that the repeat * to * is on a single line. This makes it easier to follow.
Example of rewrite:
Setup row: beg in second ch from hook, sc in second ch and in next ch; skip 1 ch, sc in next 5 ch,
* work 3 sc in next ch , sc in next 5 ch +, skip next 2 ch, sc in next 5 ch; repeat from * across,
REWRITE for last stitches:
ending last rep at +,
* work 3 sc in next ch , sc in next 5 ch +, skip 1 ch turn.
Hope this helps.
