For your first 7 rounds you are increasing every round. On Round 8 you are working even -- that is you are working into every stitch you previously created without doing any increasing or decreasing. On Round 9, you resume your increase round.

When it says on Round 8 and every alternate round, they mean every other round. So you increase on round 9, repeat Round 8 (that is work even) for Round 10. Increase on Round 11, work even for round 12. You keep alternating the increase round with a work even round until you have whatever number of stitches you need for your hat. Then you work even (the repeat Round 8 instruction) until you have the depth required for the hat then you start on the ruffle.

how do i know where to increase and how much to increase.... on what stitch etc..??

thanks kt

Hi Leslye, The pattern is giving you the increase as you crochet each row. As you go around and do the 2sc in next stitch...that is the increase. When you get to the end of a row, count your stitches and you will see that you are going from 12 to 18 to 24, etc. When I work on a pattern like this, I count like crazy...I have been known to drop or add a stitch...just go slow and easy and work what the pattern calls for and the hat will grow....Hope this helps....All the best, Jane
