I am new at this and have done yoga socks and thought I would do mary jane slippers; however right at the bat there is a new technique that I just cannot visualize - help please:-)

Sole
Begin at toe end with pair of double-pointed needles, cast on 18 sts (I can do this)
Turn work upside down - cannot visualize at all
With RS facing and second needle, pick up and knit 18 sts along cast on edge - do no understand (i have an idea but then the next line confuses me)

I did it!

I started on my afghan in May 08 and 1 year and 3 months later I finally finished it! And with 1 day to spare - the gift recipient arrives tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone here - I came to look up topics when I was stuck and had a couple questions answered. You all are so wonderful and I appreciate the support.

I have a couple caps I need to make next and will probably stick to some small projects for a while before I tackle another big one like that. It sure was satisfying to finish it though!

Thanks again!

Aloha,

Zipper and Knitting

I am making a vest for my husband which will have a zippered front.

I am planning to sew the zipper on to bias tape to give the zipper more stability but I was wondering whether to just use sewing thread to sew the tape on to my fronts but was wondering if I should look for something like wooly nylon. What type of thread have you used to sew in zippers to your knitting?

How to protect wool?

Okay, I put the Marino wool yarn in a baggie with cedar balls and started my project. Sealed shut bag and left it for about 3 weeks while working on other projects. Opened the baggie and there were WORMY THINGS EATING THE YARN!!!!

I can't do moth balls because of cats and allergies. I'm about ready to swear off any natural fiber because it seems that no matter what I do, it gets EATEN!!!

Help!!!!

Also, is alpaca bug resistant?

purling

Am I totally nuts, or does the purl stitch take more yarn than the knit stitch? Reason for my thinking: when I get ready to do the top of a chemo hat, I do one purl row, followed by decrease rows. Inevitably, it seems that at least one purl stitch per needle falls off one or the other end of the dp as they await their turn for the next row. Yet, when I return to the knit stitch, all seems to fall into place and the sts don't often jump off. Comments???

Happy summer knitting!!! Marian
