Herringbone Stitch

Hello,
I am working a pattern that appears to have a Herringbone stitch. I am not sure how to proceed. Here are the instructions:
ch 3 (counts as dc). *Miss next 3 hdc, 1 dtr in next hdc. Working in front of last dtr, 1 dc in each of 3 missed hdc

I am not sure if I start at the first skipped hdc or the 3rd skipped hdc.
Also, what does it mean working in front?

The next row is similar as above but it says to work in back. Can anyone decipher?

I lost my crochet pattern for Xmas socks

I lost my crochet pattern for Xmas stockings that I made for my family in a move we made 2 years ago. I now am being blessed with a grandchild this Nov.2009 and want to crochet one for him/her. It has a green body with a crocheted Santa attached to the front. There is white piping around the outside of the sock and a white flap that comes over the front with the persons name crocheted on it. I have pictures and if anyone thinks they have the pattern I could send a picture to confirm. Please help me.

I had access to a website that just had hundreds and hundreds of free patterns(crochet/knit and maybe even needlework). Everything was seperated by decades. It was then sorted by project. I found many wonderful patterns there. Now I can't seem to find the site. Does anyone know the site I'm speaking of??????

Granny Square Lost Pattern

Does anyone have the directions for this granny square?
It has 4 dc clusters in the middle and a long tr attached (going downward) to each of the clusters.
The other long tr is attached to the first long tr.
The pattern came from a blue and white booklet with other patterns.
I do not know how to post a picture of the square at this site but if you email me at dhormel@iowatelecom.net I can send a picture.

Hi everyone, I have a question that will make you put your thinking caps on. About 19 years ago I crocheted a christening outfit. It was white with small pearls on blanket, gown, hat, also the blanket and grown was smocked. I remember that there was over 2000 beads. I have lost the pattern and I hope that I might be able to find the pattern again.

I can't understand what the directions are asking me to do on the first round. Ch 3 1 DC in ring-counts as DC 2 tog. Ch 2 (yoh and draw up a loop in ring. yoh and draw threw 2 loops on hook)twice. yoh and draw all loops on hock-dc 2 tog made. If someone could help me understand that would be great. Thank you
