Crochet Fall Shawl

MATERIALS:

Brushed mohair-type yarn --12.5 oz.
Size J HOOK OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

GAUGE:

11 sts = 3”; 8 rows = 5” in pat. TO INSURE PROPER SIZE, BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

SIZE:

Shawl measures approx 92” across top; 32” down center back, without fringe.

SHAWL:

Ch 8. Row 1: 1 dc in 6th ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in last ch. Turn. Row 2: Ch 5, 1 dc in first dc, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in 4th ch of t-ch, ch 1, 1 dc in same st. Turn. Row 3: Ch 5, (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) in first st, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next dc; rep from * across to t-ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) in 4th ch of t-ch. Turn. Row 4: Ch 5, 1 dc in first dc, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next dc; rep from * to t-ch, end ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in 4th ch of t-ch, ch 1, 1 dc in same st. Turn.
Rows 5-58: Rep Rows 3 & 4. Fasten off.

Fringe: Wind a single strand of yarn around a 6” piece of cardboard. Cut at one end, making 12” long strands. Using 3 strands per fringe, fold strands of yarn in half to form a loop, insert hook through back of work, drawing loop through, then bring ends through loop and tighten. Attach one fringe to point at center back and one fringe on each side, then one fringe in end of each row along lower edges. Trim fringe evenly.
