We're having warmer weather now in Southern California and I'm just 2/3's of the way finished with a double-knit afghan using worsted weight wool yarn. I just couldn't bring myself to work on it last night.

Is there a yarn that

Is there a natural fiber yarn that isn't effected by moths? I thought that having my mohair in a plastic tub with lid and cedar balls. Well, I opened it up and sure enough, it had been eaten by moths ANYWAY! (I've had this yarn for about 5 years)

I know Merino is a wool, but how does it stand against moths? What about alpaca?

I was really surprised because I thought that because Arizona is so dry, that it wouldn't be much of a problem. I don't want to spend money only to lose it to bugs!

How many stitches do I pick up?

Posted by: Cathy (IP Logged)

If a pattern states to pick up 1 st for each st and 2 stitches for every 3 rows, what mathmatical formula do I use to figure out how many stitches I should end up with. I'm trying to pick up stitches around an armhole which is 66 rows for the front and 66 rows for the back plus 18 sts for the under arm. I just can't figure it out, please help!
Thanks.

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me with a puzzle I am trying to solve?

Starting with 10 each time how many are left after;
k1,p1,k2tog,(k1,p1)to end = a
k1,p1,k1 (k2 tog) repeat 3 times,k to end = b
(sl 1,k1,psso) 4 times, k to end = c
cast off 7, k2 tog, wrn,k to end = d

I need to find the values for a,b,c & d

Thanks

Alan

socks: short-row heels

I'm learning to knit socks. (I'm making bed socks for practice, because no one will see them under the blanket).

But I haven't found a method for short row heels that gives results I'm happy with. I've tried methods from various web sites: wrap, no-wrap, double-wrap, knit through back loop, knit together and "make 1", etc. Sometimes there are holes, sometimes one side looks good but the other doesn't... I'm just not satisfied so far.

Dec 1 st each side on next row, then on every 10th row 2x. Then inc 1 st each side every 10th row 3x.

I'm a beginner and having a hard time understanding patterns. I've been knitting afghans but now I am advancing and am trying to knit a women's vest. Help

buttonholes

I finished a cardigan baby sweater that has three buttons up the front. The bottom buttonhole is perfect, but the top and middle buttonholes seem to have disappeared even though I remember knitting them. Since the sweater is finished, is there a way to add buttonholes now?

Increasing on sleeve

Posted by: Cathy (IP Logged)

I am working on a sweater with a 46 row chart pattern. The instruction say "Beg with chart row 17, work in chart pat, AT THE SAME TIME, inc each side on 9th row, then every 8th row (9) times, which leaves me at row 44.
Then it says to inc every 10th row (2) times.
My question is do I incease from row 44 to row 46? Or do I knit 10 more rows and do my next increase on row 8?
