Five reasons why I Love Yarn Day was great this year

I Love Yarn Day is a huge hit every year and this year was no exception. Our Facebook Yarn Bomb was a success and hundreds of people posted their favorite #ILoveYarnDay pictures on social media, with a combined  reach of over 1.4 million. Here are five reasons why we think I Love Yarn Day was so great this year!

#1. Facebook Yarn bomb

This year was the third time we hosted our Facebook Yarn Bomb and you delivered. The goal was for each person to post five individual pictures representing why they love yarn. Hundreds of people participated and shared how yarn has affected their lives.

#2. Stitch It Forward

This year’s ILYD theme was stitch it forward. What does that mean? It means stitch your love of yarn forward by teaching someone else a yarn craft. Teaching others shares yarn love with more people and helps others discover the amazing benefits of yarn crafting.

#3. Yarn sales

Every year major yarn retailers and independent shops alike host sales before and on I Love Yarn Day. This year, several shops participated and the savings were abundant.

#4. Giveaways and contests

Just like with yarn sales, many companies have giveaways and contests for their followers and customers around I Love Yarn Day. This year was no different, and companies like Interweave gave away anything from yarn to knitting needles to pompom makers.

#5. Love Knitting’s ILYD video

Love Knitting interviewed people on the streets of London about various aspects of yarn. The results were hilarious and ranged from questions about yarn terms to how people would describe somebody who knits.
