Knitting

Sensations Rainbow Boucle Problem

A friend picked out this yarn for me to knit a lengthwise stole/shawl in garter stitch. I used 10.5 needles to cast on 250 sts using long-tail and have done about two inches using #9 needles. The cast-on edge has very little elasticity while the body has a lot of stretch. I've tried several different types of cast-on and all have the same result. I'm concerned that the edge will not hold up in use. Any suggestions????

Teaching special needs students

I am currently teaching classes in crochet and knitting at a local recreation center. I have 2 special needs students in the knitting class. One says she is in special olympics and she tries to cast on but seems to just make loops only to take them off the needle and start again (she doesn't seem frustrated just repetitive). I have tried casting on and knitting a couple rows so she has a base to work on, but after knitting (loosely) on that for a while she goes back to the simple cast on (adding loops on the needle, not the slingshot or knit-on cast on methods).

help with Bernat (1979) baby afghan pattern

I have come back to knitting after many years with an old Bernat kit to make a baby afghan called "40" Winks. It's not difficult or so I thought it just has a peculiar instruction that I cannot find anywhere to get help including the Bernat site! The instructions on part of it are: PFT2...skip next st, P in FRONT of next st, P skipped st; KFT2...skip next st, K in FRONT of next st, K skipped st; PBT2...skip next st, P in BACK of next st, P skipped st; KBT2...skip next st, K in BACK of next st, K skipped st.

Leaving Tail at end of Square

I am new to this site and excited about getting started. I have made squares for Knit a Square for Africa, and those instructions had us leave a 1 1/4 yd tail at the end of the square at time of binding off to use to sew squares together. Is this also needed on your squares? If not, I am confused on how they would be put together. Please let me know as I am feverishly making them now to be dropped off at our local Michaels Store in 2 weeks! Thx so much!

Pattern Help Needed

Hi, I am a fairly experienced knitter, but am used to patterns in a different language than English. This is the first time I am following an English pattern. I am knitting a cable sweater and have figured out the pattern, but now I find myself stuck at the armhole decrease. Could some one please clarify for me how to read:

Lands End Feel Good Campaign 2011

I understand that Lands End is donating yarn to the Warm Up America group so that 7 X 9 squares can be made (knit/crochet) and then made into a afaghan. How does one obtain the yarn? Is their a guild/club/group in Washington state that is participating? I live near Tacoma, WA. Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

stitch patterns

Hi everyone. I'm new here - just starting the Level 1 knitting instructor course. I'd appreciate it if someone could point me to the right place for the stitch patterns one is supposed to knit samples of. Baby fan, basketweave, increasing by knitting and purling into the same stitch, what sort of cable we're supposed to demo, etc.
Thanks.

Blocking sweater sleeves knitted in round

I'm working on a child's cardigan pattern that has a turned hem on the skirt of the sweater and on the sleeves. The turning row is K2tog, yo. When I block the sweater, I want to emphasize this row, so that it creates a scalloped edge on the hem. I plan on using the string blocking method (stringing a piece of cotton yarn or thread through the row and putting tension on it to keep the row straight while it dries). This is the first time I'm trying this method, and I'm not quite sure how it will work on a hem knitted in the round (the sleeves).

Confused by pattern instructions. Help!

I’m currently working on Ian’s 8-Quarter Cap by Kate McDaniel and I’m so confused as to what the designer is saying in regards to knitting the brim.

I have 110 sts on circular needles and am ready to begin the brim. Instructions are as follows:

Folded Hem and Brim Shaping:
Using beginning of round marker as a center
guide, slip 30 (33, 36) stitches onto a holder and
leave for later. (Center these slipped stitches at the
front of the hat ie 15 on one side of the marker and
15 from the other)
