Canadian Supplies List doesn't match Canadian patterns

For knitting lesson 2, I had both a puzzled student and a puzzled Michaels employee, as both were trying to find Caron yarn, because that's what the supply list said. Is there a Canadian version? I can't find it on the Discover website, because I think it targets the teachers. The Michaels store has a whole bunch of different pdf's than I have.

Michaels advertizing Knit and Crochet Classes

I don't know if anyone one else noticed, but yesterday I received an email from Michaels with a flyer showing the sale items next week. In the corner at the bottom of this flyer was a link called "Courses Offered". I clicked on it and Voila! There was a one page flyer showing the Wilton classes, the Beading classes, the Scrapbooking classes, AND the Knit and Crochet Classes. It's a first national advertisement I've seen so far for these classes. I guess it's a start.

Knitting Make It and Take It

Hello,
My boss at Michaels has been asking all instructors for ideas of promoting classes including Make It and Take It (MITI). I also teach scrapbooking and I can do embellishments MITI, because that is one of the things we talk about. Except I am not coming up with ideas for knitting. I have thought of yarn dolls, pom poms and even tassels. But it does not relate to the knitting classes. I would like to have something to relate to those classes.
Thank you.

I'd love to hear how others set up their class schedules and whether you are teaching knit, crochet, or both sets of classes. I'd especially like to hear from people that are teaching the Discover program at more than one Michaels location.

Marketing Classes

I am curious about how others have been marketing their knitting classes.  I am in several stores in Northern New Jersey and have had what I consider moderate success for a newly introduced program.  I treat this like a start up business and use guerilla marketing techniques to promote the local program.  Here are some of the things I do...Kiosk Calendar:  Listing on the in-store Michaels class calendar. In-Classroom Display:  A descriptive bulletin board with samples in each store, as was requested of us. Monthly flyers posted in the yarn departmen

Decoding Laundry Directions Icons

Maybe this will help you, too....During my Discover the Knit Stitch class, I use the yarn department field trip to look at the bands.  We talk about all the information found there and how to make use of it.  One part that always stumps me are those laundry direction icons.  I found this in a google search...www.textileaffairs.com/docs/laundrycurriculum.pdf   It says it is okay to use for educational purposes so I printed out the last page only to keep with my notes.  I'm making ano
